Many of us have read a story or two by Terry Pratchett, but did you know he is slowly dying of Alzheimer's disease?
He is a long term sufferer and still fights through to write stories for his fans... A constant fighter for a cure, donating thousands to research... Now he fights for the rite in the uk to choose youthanasia when your terminaly ill... Currently there is a long standing debate involving a persons rite to choose youthanasia or to choose assisted youthanasia... The choice of youthanasia by a person can still be contested in court even if it has been stipulated by the patient or legal guardian... People are going to the extreme of running off to the Dignitas clinic in Zurich to finally end their suffering... One of the few european places available that they still have the rite to choose the time to an end... European courts are still debating several cases of sufferers wishing to end their lives in this manner... Some have partners that are facing possible criminal investigations after the event in Zurich... Every one should have the rite to the choice of their leaving... After all... All man is created equal, there for all men or woman should have the choice to determine their end...
My questions is this....
Who has the rite to detest a persons final will or their final request before sanity leaves them?
Who can decide that a person can or can not make the decision to leave this mortal coil at the point of his or her choosing?
And who gets to decide that the family is held responsible for helping the person carry out this decision?
Please read this news article by Terry Pratchett before you start to choose a side...
